Jade

Jade, originally uploaded by jellerose.

My middle daughter is making her way in front of the camera rather than behind as her mama and older sister. (The oldest looks amazing in front of the camera too!)

Jade is an aspiring actress and singer who indulged her "in-house" photographer in doing some testing. An enjoyable change from my children and baby portrait work.

I love this kid.

Malibu Beach Playdate

I have to share some images from my recent playdate with the fabulous Jennifer Wilson and her adorable (silly, energetic, goofy, lovable) kids! Jennifer is a fellow Los Angeles area children's photographer and it's a treat to get to hang out, talk shop and play with the kids.

Jen and her kids are so sunshiney I decided to process these images to reflect the same energy!

Tis The Season

I've neglected this blog terribly. I had hoped to debut a new blog but I seem to be wordpress challenged. Until after the holiday season I'm going to update this one and save the wordpress adventure for 2009.

Considerations of the current economy have affected us all. To celebrate the idea of positive change, I'm offering holiday specials this year. In addition to the sessions at the beach in Ventura, I'm extending the same offer to studio sessions. Reduced session fee and holiday cards or digital file, my gift to help you with your gift giving.

I've been asked about mini sessions and am in the process of trying to find an available date. Check back here or email me to be notified when the date is set.

An update for those who have wondered about our recovery from our house fire:

My youngest and I moved to Ventura in April. I used to love visiting out here but it's been an adjustment after living in Simi for over 20 years, over 15 in the same home.

We have an ocean view (with only a slight visual challenge from power lines!) from our bedroom windows and it's a short 10 minute walk to the beach. Just as easy to walk downtown to the shops and library. And Starbucks ; ). I do miss some of our favorite places in Simi but gaining some new favorites here in Ventura.

It takes me less than half an hour to get to the studio, about the same to most other locations in Ventura County.

My daughter started middle school this year instead of 7th grade as we'd planned in Simi. Fortunately, she loves her school.

We're still not 100% recovered from the transition but enjoying our new adventure.

Belated update

I just wanted to make a quick and unfortunately inadequate update. I will attempt to add more as soon as I can.

We recently lost our home in a fire and have not relocated to a permanent home yet. We're staying with family friends while we reqroup and assess the next steps towards rebuilding our home and business lives.

We have been able to recover over 90% of image file data which includes 100% of the files from sessions in the past year. Very little contact information is available as that information was stored differently.

A few completed print orders were lost and will be reprinted asap. Reprocessing for some proofing will be redone as needed but obviously delayed.

The studio in Moorpark is fine and will be available for sessions once those resume in June. Unfortunately the computer and camera equipment had been stored at home with the studio being primarily for shooting and meetings. We are working on replacing the necessary items so that we can continue to bring you the wonderful images you've come to expect from Rosestone Studios.

On a personal note, our family is fine, minor burns and smoke sensitivity being the primary physical consequences. We are thankful to have each other and immensely grateful for all the support, prayers and help that we have received.

The 805.306.1886 and previous cel number are not currently active. Please use this email address, rosestone!studios!@aol.com (remove the exclamation marks) to send contact information and you'll receive a response as soon as is possible.

Summer color.

Another post with no people photographs. Indulging in some summer activity sharing. My daughter calls it "Camp Neuhaus", where we try to take advantage of some of the many fabulous opportunities we have here in So Cal for entertainment and education.

Our latest excursion was to the Butterfly Pavillion at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The exhibit runs through Sept. 3rd. www.nhm.org/exhibitions/butterflies/

The docents are super helpful and informative. Very friendly as long as people keep hands off the pretty bugs. The exhibit covers the entire life cycle of butterflies and doesn't ignore those wannabes, the moths.

My friend and I took three 9 and 10 year olds to see the butterflies. The Science Center and Imax were next. You could spend a couple of days at Exposition Park just to take in all that's available. We have to go back soon as we missed out on time for the HUGE rose garden this time around.

I usually prefer not to shoot in full sun. However, there is very little shade in the pavillion and the butterflies don't hang out there as much as they do on the bright, colorful flowers in the sun.

The kids took turns photographing with my backup camera. When I get time I'll try to remember to share some of their art!

Snips and Snails

It's amusing that I, a mom of three girls, end up photographing more boys! A few years ago I was surprised to discover that I simply adore little boys. Sure, they can't get away with wearing the pink tutus I love, but they wear the sweetest smiles. And the most mischievous. Mister C. gave me plenty of both. The hugs aren't bad either.

I first photographed C. when he was a bump in his mama's belly, followed a few months later by his newborn session. He was almost two during our last session and I was happy to see him again and marvel at how much he'd grown, now almost six!

Just a sneak peek:
